Spring Indie Craft Fair or How I Managed to Sleep Before 11pm

On Saturday, I pretty much spent all day at the Spring Indie Craft Fair hosted by 5craft7. It was possibly the most tiring thing I've ever done? The fair was at Sala Rossa on St. Laurent from noon until 5pm. I had to be there by at least 10am to set up. I've met some really awesome crafty people like Andrea, who makes aprons from vintage fabric and the Australian girl who sat next to my table, who specialized in coin purses made of recycled juice/milk cartons. Because it was my first time, I wasn't really smart in terms of preparing myself. I forgot to bring a snack, so I was starving all day until my friend Marisa saved the day with a ginger muffin. I was so hungry that I didn't care it had ginger in it. I also should've brought a book to read during the downtime. I ended up playing Bejeweled on my iPod. The good thing was that I was adjacent to the free coffee at the venue and the music was pretty good. I was so tired by the time I got home, I promptly went to bed at 10pm and woke up at 8am today. It was great. I should try sleeping before midnight more often.

**Thanks to all my friends who dropped by the fair! <3
My craft table. Don't you love my handmade sign?

I didn't sell very much. Actually, I hardly sold anything. I blame the calendar for not having a gift-giving holiday in March. I'll try again in the winter time when Xmas is coming up. I guess I can always list everything on Etsy. I still don't know how to properly use Etsy, and just maintaining/promoting takes a lot of time. I need to focus on my studies! Especially with 4 tests looming right around the corner...

Extra news that aren't really important: I keep thinking about my Wordpress and my Blogger, and I think this summer I'll actually merge the two together. It doesn't really make sense to keep two blogs about myself, when I can just use one blog for all my rambles and art. The only thing that's stopping me from doing it are the lack of pretty themes available at Wordpress. It sounds stupid, I know. But if it's not pretty to me, other people may also not find it pretty. T_T How hard is it to find a simple, minimal blog theme where I can use georgia and a pretty header? Even better if I could find a theme like my current Blogger one for Wordpress. Ok, I'm done. I FOUND THE PERFECT THEME! It looks almost like this one, which is FABULOUS. Expect the move to happen in June.

Two new prints in my Etsy! Go check out Liesel and Jude!

Pray for Japan

As you all know, Japan was hit with an 8.9 earthquake and then a 10 m tall tsunami, devastating cities and villages as far as the eye can see. I kept reading all the news reports, and watching live feeds of what's going on, and it really scared me. It also propelled me to make an effort to help out, no matter how small. In a fortnight, I designed/printed/cut these "PRAY FOR JAPAN" postcards with information at the back. All the profits will go directly to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
If there's a big enough demand, I'll consider putting them up for sale on Etsy or make a Bigcartel account. I would rather stay away from Etsy because they take a percentage of the sale. Otherwise, I will have to raise the price from 2$ to around 2.20$. Would everyone be cool with that? Lemme know.

I've been overwhelmed by the positive response I've gotten with these postcards. It truly shows that people care and want to help. Bigger image here.

In other news, I was silly and drank a massive coffee at 10pm which resulted me not sleeping until 5am. I started painting and it inspired me to make a personal project of series. Here's a peek at one of the pieces. Bigger image here.

March Happenings.

I was totally supposed to blog in February but there's honestly so much I have going on I never really had a chance to catch my breath. A Common Beauty art show at heARTwood House Gallery was an amazing experience, and I was lucky enough to have a few friends come see the show.

I will be participating in this years Spring Indie Craft Fair by 5craft7 in Montreal. It will be at Sala Rosa March 26th. Come visit my table full of original art and crocheted goods! I'll post pictures of items for sale soon.

Next Tuesday will be the vernissage of THE LIVING AND THE DEAD at Gallery X in Concordia University. One of my pieces will be at the show, among other talented friends/artists. Here's a sneak peek of what I'll be showing:

End of January Updates

Wow! I've been meaning to update since the 2nd week of January, but I think we all know that time flies by. I've actually managed to update my art+lifestyle diary before this one! If you want to read the whole shindig of my month, hop on over here.

Just a short recap:

Sketchbook Project
I finished the sketchbook that will be touring across the US along with millions of other sketchbooks. While it was fun at first, it quickly became tiring and almost like a chore. I don't know if I'll participate in it again. It was enjoyable to have a sketchbook purely for one particular theme, but I like to flit around themes and ideas, instead of sticking to one. At the end of the tour, it will reside permanently in the Brooklyn Art Library. Go check it out!

A Common Beauty art show
I've been lucky to be one of the many artists selected to be in this show. Hosted by Hopewell Centre at the heARTwood House Gallery, it will run alongside with Eating Disorder Awareness Week, a week which holds a lot of meaning and hope for me. So if you're in Ottawa this weekend, be sure to come for the vernissage, I'll be there!

I finally opened an Etsy shop! After months of "I will open one soon" I finally did it. So far I have a few items, and I plan to expand it with more crafty goodies for everyone to enjoy. I was riding on a giant crocheting wave over the holidays and it didn't stop when school started. By the end of the year I hope to have many wonderful things from crafted goods, quality prints and original works up for grabs.

That's all the news for now, enjoy the last day of January and I'll see you in February ;)
